Do You Want To Take A Sabbatical?

Show Notes:

I’ve craved this sabbatical for years. My sister is a public school teacher and sometimes she takes several weeks off during the summer.

I’ve always envied her weeks off. As my sister went on long road trips with her family or just slowed down at home, I’d find myself thinking…”must be nice.”

Then immediately I’d feel ashamed about my envy.

My sis overworks all year long. As educators, she and her colleagues are expected to pick up the slack of a ridiculously underfunded educational system. They've clearly gone beyond earning many many weeks off. And often they spend some of those weeks cleaning their classrooms and prepping for the next year.

I just heard that about 60% of teachers are thinking about or wishing they could leave the classroom.

And then there’s everyone I know who’s an overworked therapist. I know a lot of therapists working too many hours for not enough pay, either in private practice or in agencies.

Me on the other hand...

I make good money. As a micro business owner I create my own hours, wages and working conditions. Regardless of my envy, I never thought I should or even could take two months off.

Of course sometimes I’m stressed. Of course sometimes I create ridiculous working conditions for myself...but I also have the freedom to get back out of those situations.

I’m taking these two months off because I want to, not because I need to.

Are you thinking “must be nice”?

Yes, I believe it will be.

Let’s plan your sabbatical too, whether you are overworked or burned out or just because you want one.

In this episode I share what I’ve done well in prepping for this time off as well as what I’ve messed up so far.
